Piehunter marked the start of the new pie season with a visit to the Newman Arms on Rathbone Street, London. Walking through the very unassuming pub to the back, you take the stairs to the legendary Pie Room….
The Pie Room menu includes a unrivalled selection of eleven regular suet (£12.95) and standard pie (£9.95) options in addition to a number of daily specials. Choices for the evening included beef and Guinness, chicken, ham and leak and steak and kidney. All were served with good veg, but a small portion of roast potatoes. Extra mash sides are essential.
Bengal Lancer was the excellent guest ale. Rounded off with a round of traditional English desserts – spotted dick, rhubarb crumble, bread and butter pudding and a very good sticky toffee pudding.
Highly recommended.
