This year’s Piehunter Christmas outing was to the St. John restaurant in Smithfield, London. Piehunter deliberates long and hard over its festive special and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
St. John is an English restaurant opened in 1994 by Fergus Henderson, Trevor Gulliver and Jon Spiteri on the premises of a former bacon smoke house. It retains the interesting Georgian architecture and the building is much as it was found.
This is a diverse and constantly changing menu, but a sample meal included whole crab, a truly epic pheasant and trotter pie for two and spotted dick for two. Do leave room for the dessert!
All washed down with a pint of Black Sheep and a great bottle of red.
Highly recommended.
