S is for South African

We rated Hammer & Tongs just north of Farringdon very highly. Inspired by a genuine love of the South African braai, this was a delicious meat feast with a warm welcome.

The entire menu is braai-cooked over sickle bush and blackthorne wood imported from South Africa. The beef was from the Dedham Vale (which happens to be just 5 mins from where this Pie Hunter lives). We enjoyed the Big Braai for four (£115) which included 700g T-Bone, Chilli Tiger Prawns Sosatie, Spicy Pork Belly Sosatie, Curry Lamb Sosatie and Honey Chicken Sosatie, Boerewors. Plus Tomato Salad, Fire Roasted Beetroot & Feta Salad, Braaibroodjies, Fire Roasted Butternut. The meat was perfectly cooked.

Wolfpack lager via Saracens was a very good beer. And as readers will know by now, desserts are always a bonus on our outings. The Malva Pudding with vanilla ice-cream (£5) was excellent.
