Z is for Zululand

Two years of epic culinary adventure. London’s glorious diversity and character laid bare. Highs and lows. Some truly terrible desserts. Testing the limits of friendship and willingness to travel beyond Zone 2…. Yes it’s had it all. And fittingly came to a conclusion, as it should, at ‘Z.’

The huge 27,000 sq ft Shaka Zulu in Camden (a micro universe in London if there ever was one) was opened with a special royal blessing from the Zulu king HRH Goodwill Zwelithini in 2010. This was a big and brash venue, but a suitably audacious setting for the final leg of our challenge. We even had a surprise visitor and dear friend from Dublin present to add to the occasion.

Good quality braai/ sushi menu (yes it’s a thing) and live music with decent service out weighed the price tag and left this venue firmly in the positive.

Highlights included the huge pork ribs (£27 for a full rack, but half would be fine), for novelty the King Sharer with 200g each of crocodile, zebra, wild boar and rib eye steak (£75), and the ice cream taster dessert.
