The Pie Hunter team jumped at the chance to reconnect with its heritage and a return visit to the pie serving Newman Arms in Fitzrovia. It was 10 years since our last visit. A lifetime in pie years. Great company as always, but this was a mixed bag.
There were plenty of positives – a good atmosphere on a warm autumn evening, a great selection of beers on tap (try the Raw Lager & American Red Ale), tasty steak & ale (£14), and chicken & mushroom (£13) pies.
But served with some obvious work-ons – slightly unattended restaurant area upstairs, meagre portions of vegetables, running out of desserts at 8pm when there were only three on the menu. To their credit, we had a bonus cheese board thrown in to compensate and the white chocolate mousse was delicious.
