In the heart of the city, most people come to The Mercer on Threadneedle Street for a power lunch and I duly obliged, meeting a journalist from the Guardian at what was once a banking hall. The world economy, we are told, is heading for a big recession. The credit crunch is already hitting the City’s financial institutions – but that doesn’t mean you should miss out on one of life’s greatest pleasures – the pursuit of the perfect pie.
I’d heard good things about the Mercer Pie from colleagues and it certainly didn’t disappoint. A delicious rump steak and mushroom option soaked in a London porter ale for a rich, dark and incredibly tasty gravy. A decent short crust pastry. Recommended.
